First exhibited at Noor Riyadh in Saudi Arabia, “Hierarchy” is part of a series of artworks by Spriggs on the colours black and white. In “Hierarchy,” Spriggs continues his exploration of these colours using an abstract composition and layering of black and white forms, drawing inspiration from artists such as Mark Rothko and the modernist tradition in art. Many of Spriggs’ artworks delve into the theme of power, and this stratachrome sculpture is no exception. Spriggs invites the viewer to consider the complex and often abstract nature of power dynamics, while also examining the cultural and symbolic meanings of color and the blurred lines between them.
