RGB

RGB pairs red, green and blue across three sculptures: blue with red, green with blue, and red with green. These are the primary channels used by digital displays to produce a spectrum of colour. Spriggs separates them into saturated forms with depth, giving a familiar visual system an unfamiliar physical presence. The paired columns recall the components of a pixel, enlarged so that each colour can be encountered individually and in relation to its neighbour. Their soft edges and luminous depth bring the precision of a digital colour system into contact with the changing experience of looking. Colour is felt through warmth, coolness, intensity and apparent distance. The triptych extends Spriggs’ concept of the stratachrome, or layered colour, into a reflection on how technology organises the colours through which we see the world. RGB is permanently installed in the Hilton Lobby at Resorts World Las Vegas.
