Vision Shenzhen suspends a white vortex above an escalator at C Future City. Its image contracts towards a central point and expands through space, changing from an apparently continuous volume into a sequence of transparent planes as visitors move beneath and around it.
The work is organised around an image of convergence. Radiating marks suggest an aperture, an implosion, or a field of energy, while their alignment gives the void at the centre a powerful visual presence.
Installed within a route of constant circulation, the artwork cannot be apprehended from one position. The escalator, surrounding platform, and changing elevations make movement part of the image.
Vision and convergence
The title connects the act of seeing with the form of the work. Vision gathers partial and discontinuous information into an apparently coherent world. Here, that process is made visible. Separate marks align as a vortex, then lose their unity when the viewer changes position.
The empty centre acts as the strongest point in the composition. It draws attention inward while opening the image onto an indeterminate space beyond its physical depth.
White, light, and public space
White pigment gathers and disperses the surrounding light. Its apparent neutrality allows the architecture, shadows, reflections, and bodies moving through the site to alter how the form is perceived.
The work’s suspended position gives the image a dual relation to the building. It occupies the atrium as a substantial presence while remaining visually open, allowing sightlines and movement to pass through it.
Commission context
Vision Shenzhen is permanently installed at C Future City in Futian, Shenzhen. Suspended above an escalator and surrounded by an accessible viewing platform, the work was conceived to be encountered from multiple elevations and lines of movement. The project was realised in association with PO Art Consulting.
