Two vortices in a shifting balance of power.
In Powershift, two unequal vortices become a metaphor for contemporary power structures. One centre appears dominant, yet both belong to the same circulating field. Their connection suggests that power depends on relationships of attraction, resistance and mutual dependence.
The work can be read in relation to shifting alliances between states, institutions and economic interests. Influence gathers around particular centres, but its distribution remains open to change. The imbalance between the two forms gives this relationship its tension: a dominant force remains dependent on its connections, while a smaller force can alter the movement of the whole.
