Data places a blurred white formation inside a transparent case. Its cloudlike appearance offers a metaphor for information gathered into a body whose contents remain difficult to distinguish. The contrast between an open enclosure and an indistinct subject is central to the work. Access to something and understanding it are different experiences. The cloud appears dense from one viewpoint and more dispersed from another, making the viewer’s position part of what can be discerned. Through this uncertain presence, Data considers the distance between information and knowledge. Accumulation produces a visible whole while leaving its individual elements unresolved, giving the promise of transparency an opaque counterpart.
