Black and white stand in opposition, yet together they form a whole.
From the frontal viewpoint, a circular form is divided in half. One side is black, the other white. Black and white carry histories of contrast, judgement, and classification. Dichotomy gives this conceptual division a spatial body.
The line separating the two halves is also the boundary they share. Each side defines the other, establishing its identity through their relationship. Together they constitute a single form whose completeness depends on both. Their opposition holds them in a condition of mutual dependence.
Dichotomy considers the unity within a binary: how apparently opposing terms belong to the same structure, each requiring its counterpart to become what it is.
