Dichotomy
Stratachrome sculpture · 2026

Division gives a single form two opposing identities.
In Dichotomy, black and white occupy opposing halves of a circular formation. A sharp vertical boundary divides the whole, while the softly diffused contours allow it to extend into the surrounding transparency. The division is precise; the form itself remains at the threshold of definition.
The work gives spatial presence to the act of dividing. Each half acquires its identity through its relation to the other, and the circular whole holds their opposition together. As the viewer moves, the circular form takes on depth and a three-dimensional experience.
Dichotomy develops a relationship between contrast, perception and mutual dependence also explored in Dichotomy B/W.
