Commissioned by the State of Kansas for the Robert B. Docking State Office Building. Twenty nine suspended acrylic layers form a pale celestial volume that gathers and dissolves as viewers move through the atrium.
Permanent works and major commissions
Painting, sculpture, light, and architecture converge in works that change through movement and inhabit public space.
Approach
David Spriggs creates public artworks in which images occupy real depth. Across layered transparent planes, cut metal, reflected light, and illuminated structures, a form may appear unified from one position and separate into planes, intervals, and reflections from another.
These works are conceived in relation to circulation, sightlines, daylight, illumination, material durability, and the identity of each site. Scale does more than enlarge an image. It makes the viewer conscious of the body, the surrounding architecture, and the changing conditions through which form becomes visible.
Each commission extends the central concerns of Spriggs’ practice while responding to the physical and civic character of its setting.
Selected permanent works

Commissioned by the State of Kansas for the Robert B. Docking State Office Building. Twenty nine suspended acrylic layers form a pale celestial volume that gathers and dissolves as viewers move through the atrium.

Installed above opposing escalators at Simcoe Place, layered champagne bronze aluminium profiles form a concave structure that opens and closes through architectural movement.

Suspended above an escalator at C Future City in Futian, the layered image expands, narrows, and reveals its transparent construction as visitors move beneath it.

Twenty painted transparent planes produce a concentrated spherical form in the Central Lobby at Resorts World Las Vegas. Its coherence depends upon alignment, light, and the viewer’s position.
Project index
Spriggs’ permanent commissions extend across civic buildings, commercial interiors, airports, hotels, and public gathering spaces in North America, Europe, and Asia.
New commissions
New projects begin with the architecture, movement patterns, viewing distances, light conditions, and cultural context of a site. Proposals may develop through layered transparent imagery, suspended structures, architectural glass, metal, illumination, or a material language particular to the commission.
Technical development is coordinated with architects, engineers, fabricators, lighting specialists, and installation teams while the artistic conception and authorship remain with David Spriggs.
